Some of the most satisfying work I've done has been designing and building custom cabinetry — and seeing how people light up when a piece finally fits the room the way they'd imagined. So I'm opening my schedule to a limited number of built-in and cabinetry projects each year. Boreal Millwork is a one-person shop: I'll be the one who listens to what you need, draws it up, builds it, and installs it. Keeping the number of projects small is how I make sure yours gets that full attention.
From design to “lived-in”
Every built-in starts with a conversation, usually in the room itself. I want to see how the space is used, where the light falls, and what isn't working now. From there I develop sketches and a 3D rendering, and we refine them together until the design feels right, down to the shelf spacing and the grain on the doors. Once you've approved it, I build everything in my shop and install it myself, scribing each piece to your walls and floors so it looks like it was always part of the house. And my involvement doesn't end when the last panel goes in. Wood moves with our northern Wisconsin seasons, so I'll come back to adjust doors and drawers after the first year if they need it.
Premium Plywoods
I build with domestic hardwoods from local and regional mills, chosen board by board for their grain and character, and finish them with hardwax oils and low (or no) VOC products that protect the wood without bringing harsh chemicals into your home.

Every hinge, drawer slide and lift system is from Blum, the Austrian maker whose soft-close hardware is the standard in fine cabinetry, so doors close quietly and drawers glide smoothly for decades of daily use.
